Incidents?
There were two events that happened recently that makes one stop and
think. First was the terrible tragedy with Sea World trainer Dawn
Brancheau being dragged to death by one of her charges, Tilikum, a 5 ton
Orca whale. Just as a side note the Orca is actually from the dolphin
family and is not a whale.
Spectators that were there stated at the performance noted that Tili the
Orca and the other whales all seemed to be agitated even in holding
tanks before the incident happened. Tili was having a hard time focusing
and seemed stressed about something. He wasn't performing the tricks he
was trained to do without a lot of redirection back to what was required
of him. All of them were not responding to the trainers.

A day or two later after that incident the second event occurred, there
was a massive earthquake in Chile. It has been reported that the animals
in the area responded the same way they did with the Tsunami in 2004.
They were agitated and tried to get away from what was coming, the
massive earthquake. This earthquake is in the top 5 of major earthquakes
of all time.
The connection to me is quite clear between the Sea World incident and
the earthquake. The agitation of the whales was due to the impending
earthquake. They are still connected to Mother Earth and still feel when
things are going to happen with her. Wanting to get out of the confines
with no where to go.
For most of us we are very disconnected from our surroundings. Given the
opportunity to just "be" would allow us the same space as the animals on
the planet. We have so much still to learn from the animals. Take some
time to be in nature and reconnect to all that is around you. Plug back
into life again.
Second
Opinions
I am all about second opinions when it comes to our animal companions.
Many of us have had the same vet for years and trust what advice they
have to offer. There are times though we just have a gut feeling the
diagnoses of an issue isn't quite right. What I say to that is that you
are the one person who knows your animal better than anyone else does.
Trust your gut and get a second opinion.
Many times I have been called in to see if the animal will give better
insight into the issue whether it is medical or behavioral. I am not a
vet so I don't diagnose but often times I get feelings or messages from
the animal that point to an area of concern. From that information a vet
may be able to better identify what is going on.
Even if you don't use an animal communicator please trust your gut and
go to another vet for a second opinion. It is always better to err on
the side having more information than less. Your animal companion will
be glad you did.

Think You Know
Your Pets Food?

Good nutrition is the key to helping our animal companions stay happy and
healthy. Have you read your pet food labels lately? If there are any corn,
wheat, soy or by-products present then you might want to rethink what you are
feeding.
I will be doing a basic nutrition class and how to read labels this spring if
you are interested in learning more about nutrition. Check my website for
upcoming dates. Check my website at

Oxygen Masks
We have all heard the stories of firefighters rescuing pets from a fire and
giving them mouth to snout resuscitation.
Did you know that a special type of oxygen mask long used by veterinarians to
deliver oxygen and gas anesthesia to pets is now being used by fire departments
all over the country?
All sorts of groups and organizations are raising money to donate the much
needed equipment
to fire stations across the US.
If this is something you or your group might want to consider for a year long
project contact your local fire company to see how you can help to make a
donation towards one of these lifesaving pieces of equipment.
